Martha Newbigging, visual and media artist, children's book illustrator, and educator.
Martha Newbigging has illustrated children's books and textbooks for publishers including Annick Press, Owl Books, Kids Can Press, and Pearson Education Canada. They have taught in a wide range of school and community settings, such as comics workshops in schools across Ontario, animation workshops in Toronto and Prince Edward County, a practicum in rural Nicaragua, and arts programs for an LGBTQ youth support group in Belleville. Martha is a professor in the Illustration program at the School for Creative Arts & Animation at Seneca College. They hold a BFA from OCAD University, a Bachelor of Education from York University, and a Master in Environmental Studies, from York University. Their research focuses on research-creation using illustration and comics and the implications for critical pedagogy.

Joanne Fitzgerald Illustrator in Residence
Martha was selected for the inaugural Joanne Fitzgerald Illustrator in Residence Program that took place at the Toronto Public Library during the month of October 2013.

TD Children's Book Week Tour 2011
In May 2011, Martha visited dozens of students at schools in the Yukon for TD Children's Book Week.

Once again local kids created animated cartoons using drawings or claymation at the Consecon Art-Space in Prince Edward County.
